Garth Brooks Sells His 4 Millionth Ticket
Lucky Ticket Holders Collect Prizes At Evansville Show
Garth Brooks has sold over 4 million tickets on his current sold-out concert tour that began in March of
1996. On Friday, May 1, he surprised the 4 millionth ticket buyers at the second of his four sold-out
shows at Roberts Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.
Greg and Melissa Siener had no idea when they came to the concert that they had purchased the lucky
ticket. When they were invited backstage by two of Brooks' crew members prior to his show, they were
showered with gifts and applause from Brooks, his wife Sandy, his parents, and his band and crew.
Trisha Yearwood, Brooks' special guest at the shows, was also on hand to extend her congratulations,
along with her band and crew. The gifts included tour merchandise, ten dozen red roses, a Sony video
camera and a 36mm Olympus camera.
As he has on previous million ticket milestones, Brooks explained that this was a celebration of the
overwhelming support he's received while on tour, and something he wished he could do for everyone
who bought tickets to his concerts. He then described the Sioners' grand gift package, consisting of four
elements: a four-day, four-night trip to one of four Florida resort locations; $4,000 spending money for
the trip; golf clubs - Ping irons and Calloway woods for Greg, and a set of King Cobras for Melissa; and
a Chevrolet Suburban which was driven inside the backstage doors as the Sieners watched in disbelief.
Brooks' tour continues through 1998 with announced stops, this month, in Nashville, Tn. (May 8-10);
Lexington, Ky (15-17); and Louisville, Ky (20-23).
Garth Brooks Leads Crowd in a Salt Lake Sing-Along
The Salt Lake Tribune. Story by LORI BUTTARS
Friday, July 10, 1998
The lights came down, the stage rose, toward the back a cowboy pianist in
white coat and tails played away at a white piano. The fans weren't
anywhere near the edges of their seats, or any other part of them for that
matter. They were on their feet and looking for Garth Brooks -- and out
from the piano he came.
Brooks, in basic black with a splash of red, raced around the stage, then
headed straight for his guitar to sing ``the old stuff.'' When he was done, he
told his cheering fans they would hear a lot of ``the old stuff'' Thursday night
in the Delta Center, because ``that's what brought us to the dance.''
He cut a wide swath with his guitar around the stage in the first of four
sold-out shows. You could hear, over the screaming of the crowd,
influences of rock, blues, Celtic, gospel and even a tropical number, all done
with high drama and enough twang to justify wearing that 10-gallon cowboy
hat.
Brooks' music is so popular that it sounded as though every person in the
full house was capable of singing along -- or shouting along as in the case of
``Two Pina Coladas'' -- all of his lyrics.
He sang his version of Billy Joel's ``Shameless,'' with a pelvic thrust thrown
in for emphasis. He performed his own family-loving ``Two of a Kind,
Workin' on a Full House,'' and the brooding ``The Thunder Rolls,'' about
spouse abuse.
He accompanied himself on an acoustic guitar for ``Unanswered Prayers''
and experimented with feedback on the electric guitar with ``Baton Rouge.''
He even got the crowd to boo once, when he threatened not to sing the
infamous third verse to ``Friends in Low Places.'' He did sing it, though, and
it was a definite crowd favorite.
Most of the time he was playful with the audience. Turning from one section
to the other, he would put up the lights to hear the cheers. Finally, he
wondered aloud what it would be like with all the lights up, and the crowd
roared and roared.
``I always wondered what Karl Malone felt like,'' Brooks said.
Brooks' tour should gross about $1.3 million from the 65,000 tickets sold
for $20 for his four-night stand here.
What a bargain, especially considering his ``opening act'' is Trisha
Yearwood, named the 1997 Country Music Association Female Vocalist of
the Year and a headliner in her own right. Even though she probably is
best-known for a song LeAnn Rimes made famous (``How Do I Live''), she
holds her own in Brooks' show.
Yearwood sang mostly her ``greatest hits'' during her solo 40-minute set, as
she stirred up the audience with songs like ``An American Girl,'' ``She's in
Love With the Boy,'' and ``How Do I Live.''
Chatting to the crowd, she said she has trouble choosing a favorite number,
but one that stands out is ``The Song Remembers When.'' She said, ``It
talks about the power of music, and that's why we're here tonight . . . other
than to see tight Wranglers, for some of us, anyway.''
Yearwood appeared again midway through Brooks' performance, to join
him in their duet ``In Another's Eyes'' and then in ``Walkaway Joe.'' For the
audience, it was a Kodak moment, as they filled the arena with flashes for
the duo.

Garth Brooks - Fresh Horses(Click here)
"If it ain't fun, it ain't me". That was Garth Brooks' slogan while making Fresh Horses, and a listen will assure you that the disc IS Garth and it WAS fun. Maybe that's why it was hard for him to let it go. "Every album has something that sets it apart for me. In the case of Fresh Horses, it was the hardest to let go," Garth says. "It hurt so much to stop the whole process I cried when it was all over." In many ways the album harks back to earlier days in Garth's career, to the western-flavored debut, Garth Brooks, and to the whirlwind energy of Ropin' The Wind.

Garth Brooks at The Rosemont Horizon October, 1993
On a bright sunny Friday morning, there is only one thing to say -"Turn off the sun!!!" It's nice and all, but last night was Bog night and, well.... you know. But alas, another band rolled through the Bog, this time it brought the return of Rude Mood. Yep, that's right, Rude Mood. Basically a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band, but throwing in others for good measure.
"If God came down here with the box that had the reason for living in it,
I'd like to find just two words. The Music. That would be neat." -- Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks is not just one of the most popular recording artists in the country music field; he is one of the most popular recording artists in any field. In the first week after his 1991 album, "Ropin' the Wind", was released, it "made music history by becoming the first album to enter both Billboard's country and pop charts at No. 1," reported People magazine. Because of his broad popular appeal, "Brooks has moved more records with greater velocity than anyone ever in Nashville," wrote People's Jim Jerome. After releasing just three albums, his combined record sales "[approached] a staggering 10 million units." 7 albums later, Garth has surpassed an astounding 60 million albums sold, and "Sevens" reached platinum status in less than 2 weeks, breaking the record for first-week sales by a solo artist with over 896,000 units sold.
Not bad for a country boy from Oklahoma.....
