"RIZ" BISCUITS

2 � cups self-rising flour
1 pkg. dry yeast or 1 cake fresh
1/4-teaspoon soda
1-cup buttermilk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening

Sift together flour, soda & sugar. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm buttermilk. Cut shortening into flour mixture. Stir buttermilk into dry ingredients quickly. Turn dough onto floured cloth or board and knead just until smooth. Roll to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with biscuit cutter. (For single biscuits roll to usual thickness.) Brush tops with melted butter; place one on top of another, making double biscuits. Cover and place in a warm place to rise until double, about 1 hour. Bake at 375 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 1 � dozen.
