      Title: Hamburger Kirschkaltschale   (Hamburg cold cherry soup)

      Yield: 7 Servings
 
     16 oz 2 cans sour pitted cherries
           In water
      1 c  Sugar
      1    Stick cinnamon
      1 tb Cornflour
      2 tb Water
           Crushed macaroons optional
 
  Combine cherries and liquid, sugar and cinnamon in saucepan, stir
  well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat.  Simmer 10 minutes.  Press
  through fine sieve, return to saucepan, heat.  Dissolve cornflour in
  cold water, stir into hot mixture.  Continue to cook, stirring
  constantly, until thickened. Serve hot or well chilled.  Sprinkle
  with crushed macaroons before serving.
