Palya is the generic equivalent of "curry" in the South Indian
language, Kannada. Here's a simple curry made with green
bell peppers.
Ingredients
4 large green bell peppers, chopped into small squares
5 tbsp bengal gram flour
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
6 garlic flakes, chopped
2 tsp sambhar powder
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
1 1/2 tbsp cooking oil

Method
Heat the oil and add the mustard, cumin and chopped garlic.
When the garlic turns light brown, add the bengal gram flour
and fry on a low flame for about 7-8 minutes.
It will immediately turn into a lump but don't lose heart and
fry stirring continously.
After the bengal gram flour has lost it's raw flavor, add the
chopped vegatable and the masala powders and salt to taste.
Add about 1 1/2 cups of water and mix well.
Bring down the heat to low.
Cook covered for about 10-12 minutes.
The vegatable should be done by now.
Sprinkle lemon juice on top and mix in.
