| INTRODUCTION | TASK | PROCESS | RESOURCES | EVALUATION |
The United States Council Of Cultural
Integration has invited you to be a member of the
Musical Inclusion Committee. Because
Hispanic music has had tremendous impact on the music of the United States,
the U.S.C.C.I. had decided to compile an anthology of the most noteworthy
Hispanic music available. The anthology will be recorded and preserved
on CD and will be placed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC.
Your committee will be composed of five members. Each of you will be responsible for researching a particular genre of Hispanic music and the individual artists or groups in that area. The fields are:

You will obtain both general information on the genre and specific information on each individual artist (or group); the former will include biographical data as well as details on the artist's country of origin. It will be important for you to evaluate your particular genre of music and also to judge the individual artist's contribution to the type of music. As this Anthology of Hispanic Music is a costly undertaking and highly prestigious, it will be imperative that you choose the artist or group that you recommend for inclusion with the utmost care.
Once each member of the committee
has performed the research and selected the artist, he or she will prepare
a presentation to the U.S.C.C.I. (for our purposes the audience will be
the class). The presentation will be your justification for choosing the
particular artist. You will also need to include a recording of a song
by the person or group.
1. Select the genre which most interests you. If more than one person desires
the same genre, ask your teacher to draw straws to decide.
2. Preparation your presentation.*Peruse the resources that are available.
*Write the biobraphical sketch of the artist; include significant
contributions to the world of music made by him/her/them.
*Discuss the country of origin.
*Answer the questions.
*Write a justification of why you chose this particular artist or
group.
*Choose a song from the body of work of this individual or group.3. Meet with the other members of your committee to plan your
presentation.
