What’s Lindy without swing music? Swing music is fun because the musicians could improvise freely and ‘play’ with the music and rhythm. Sometimes, the lyrics of the songs were funny too, such as “Ain’t Nobody Here but us Chickens” by Louis Jordan.

“It don’t mean a thing”, an original Ellington composition, sums up just what the dancers and musicians felt about their jazz music at that time. If it couldn’t swing, it just didn’t feel right, like it was lacking something.

Other than music, movies like Swing Girls feature swing music in a big band form. Swing Girls is a Japanese comedy about a group of schoolgirls (and a guy) who learn to love and to play swing music.
