In the future books are burned to make everyone equal instead of being born equal. In Fahrenheit 451 books are burned to keep theories form conflicting. Books are also burned to keep everyone equal and stop them from being made fun of. All people even look alike. This �made equality� is to keep people happy, but in reality many people are very unhappy.
In Montag�s society people are made equal to keep them happy. People are made equal to keep people from fighting, killing, and being unhappy. Except for the �made equality� really makes people unhappy. Montag�s wife , Mildred, had taken so many sleeping pills that she over dosed and almost died. You even hear jet fighters fly over the city in the story. No one even knows that a war going on because of their inability to watch news programs and read newspapers. All the people can watch are programs that have �relatives� in them. One lady even lit her house on fire when the firefighters came to burn the books. These people are very miss informed or not even informed at all due to their �made equality�.
People in this vision of the future are made happy by �made equality�, except this �made equality� does not work because people try to commit suicide every day. The �made equality� does not make people happy, it actually makes people want to commit suicide. In reality people are much happier being different than being the same. |
