Sapa Vietnam is a town in the northern most section of Vietnam, 35km (1 hour by minibus) southwest of Lao Cai, the border town between Vietnam and Yunnan Province, China.

Sapa is easily reached from Hanoi.

A nightly train departs Hanoi at 9:30 PM for Lao Cai, arriving at Lao Cai at 5:30 AM.
Connecting minibuses for Sapa await on the train station platform and in the parking lot. Travel time from Lao Cai to Sapa is about 1 hour.
Request the minibus driver to drop you off at Mountain View Hotel.
Return minibus and train tickets are easily purchased in the town of Sapa and at the Mountain View Hotel.

If arriving from China,

Morning minibuses connect Lao Cai and Sapa. They depart Lao Cai between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.

The Mountain View Hotel is in the center of town, downhill from the Market.
