Buick Regal 1981

Car's history

This car has an history of near epic proportions. First, this magnificient machine's been bought by an unknown priest in 1981 whom for an unknown reason, decided to sell it. My grandfather, searching for a replacement for his Buick Skylark 1971, heard about the Regal and decided to buy it. About fourteen years later, the car was then given to my uncle which he kept for two years. During those two years, the car endured a lot compared to the sunday rides it was used to.

Anyway, in the summer of 1997 he decided to give the car to my brother who adopted it with pleasure, swearing to put that big piece of junk in mint condition. Upon receiving, the Regal was really in bad shape:leaking fuel tank, a rotted frame and the 8-track playing two tracks at once are just a few of the things that weren't right. After a summer of hard work, the car was as good looking and smooth riding as a '81 Regal could be. Now, it's litterally falling apart. The paint is barely holdind the sheet metal together and the trips to Petro-Canada are becoming more and more painful each time(about 40$ canadian to fill this yacht up). Those things are mainly the reasons why my brother sold it for a shiny 1992 Acura Integra.

Performance

While this car can deliver quite a good kick at the start to make a rather big camping trailer move forward, thanks to the low-end torque of it's GM V-8 , it's just plain pathetic above 50km/h.

-0 to 100km/h: About 15 seconds and a half gas tank after flooring it.

-Top Speed: The counter tops at 140km/h so we can estimate a 160km/h top speed.

-Handling: Don't even try to take a high speed curve with this thing, it will roll over or you'll end up in the ditch.

Modifications/Aftermarket parts

No aftermarket or performance-enhancing parts were added to this car. Money was instead used to resolve reliability issues.

Pictures

Here's the section everyone's been waiting for. Those are pictures of the beast itself, under different angles. Click on the desired thumbnail to view the original, larger picture.

This is a picture of the car from it's right side. Notice the missing hubcap, lost while taking a high speed curve.

Here we can see the effects of time on a cheap vinyl top.

Here's one of the jurassic-looking speed counter.

This is one of the 8-track in all it's glory. It's been replaced by the stock cassette-player that was in my Honda, due to it's annoying "playing two-songs at once" syndrome.

A picture of the venerable 267, completely operational.

Here's one of the right front light after an incident involving a slippery road and a snow bank.

This is a picture of the hubcap-free right front wheel.

A shot of the sporty Momo steering wheel...

And last, this is an intimidating frontal shot of the car.

Sounds

Here are different sounds from the street machine. They are in "Zip" format.

This is a sound of the car starting and yes, it did start the first time(hehe).

This one is the noise of the exhaust burbling at idle speed (sounds like an old outboard boat motor).
