Jerry Wong's
World of My Dream Car
Unlike most people, my dream car is a van, the Honda Odyssey (known as Honda
Accord Shuttle in Europe). Since I always value passengers' comfort as priority.
The first Odyssey was released back in 1995, though the
new one, also known as LaGreat
(for photos please click here) back in
its home market in Japan) gets even better for the following reasons:
- Dual (power on top of the line model) sliding doors
(particularly good for tight parking spaces in Hong Kong, and little effort would be
needed to open and close them, being quite important for people like my father)
- Sliding middle bucket seats which can form a bench seat.
(as if the third row "magic" seat isn't magical enough already!) Such
arrangement offers better access to the third row without sacrificing the comfort of a
bucket seat. Also, you may "squeeze" one more person in the middle bench
"just in case" if you ever need to carry more passengers.
- Automatic climate controls - finally available even for
US models!
- Separate air vents for all outboard passengers (quite
important from my bus experience!)
- A much stronger engine. (the previous one wasn't powerful
enough for such car, especially going up those steep hills in San Francisco)
- Last but not least, even the top of the line model in US
does NOT have a sunroof, something which I don't like since it reduces heardroom
clearance. (quite important for tall people like me!)
I wished to have the following following equipment for
the "previous" Odyssey, though I'm not sure if these would be applicable to the
new one..
Honda original accessories:
- bumper pipe (extended bumper) steel type
- side pipe (side step) steel type
- doom light
- rear under mirror
- halogen fog light (built in projector type) yellow for
under bumper

- halogen fog light (circular type) yellow for extended
bumper
- spot light (map light)
