1973 Renault 15 TS "Covert"
Ebony Phase III
Early Pictures........

I have no really early pictures these are around Phase 1 and 2, these at least will show you how the car looked in the early days as the progression started towards today.
As you can see alot of stuff in the engine bay was made from odd parts we found around the place.

Slowly over the years we have refined that, so when you look at the updated car everything looks alot cleaner.
In this picture you can see the Steel Extractors that were made, we got a batch made at one stage.

I also have a External Gearbox breather, at one stage I thought that at high speed it would releave the presure in the gearbox, now I don't, as I never noticed any difference.

Also at this stage the breather ran into the two carby filters, I don't know if this worked as well, and the battery is still in the normal position.

I would run these R16 widened steel 14inch rims with Yokahama A008 that were a fantastic improvement on the standard comic mags with Michelin tyres that I started with. Well I would keep using them on the road, 13 by 185 was the size.

At this stage I also only had the Koni's in basic form with the stiffer TS swaybars and standard TS springs.
The Paint job was done by my father and myself, Furgo ash metallic grey, in acrylic paint. I never polished it as we weould always be doing something to it, so by the time one thing was done, it was onto the next project.

Thats my 17TS in the background, just about to go into it's full ground up restoration project, but that's another story, about what happened to it.

So this was the rebuild towards the 1996 Grand Prix Rally, it was to take quite a few months to get everything together.

As you can see the shell was sprayed first, then we put the basic interior in for the Roll Cage to be built around, Seats, door trims, seat belts.

I had sprayed the interior gloss enamel black, it makes things alot easier to work with.
You can see in this picture the Speaker holes for the JBL's, they are recessed into the rear shelf so that you don't have to modify the parcel shelf.

Also the whole rear of the car was sprayed in gloss enamel black paint.

Looking towards the front, you can see the strut brace that was also made, when the roll cage was made.

The headlining is non-backed black marine carpet that is waterproof but will also stretch over the curves of the roof, this give you plenty of extra head room.
This photo was taken on the morning of the Grand Prix Rally, a group of friends, Matt, Ben, Adam had resulted in a 4 AM finish with the stickers just being stuck down, alot of other things were still not working, but at least it was half was there.

The A110 wheels had only been on the car for 1 week in the garage so we where yet to see if they even fitted the car properly.

We won't talk about what happened when we took the stickers off, that's another story.
