Understanding your plate numbers

By means of two plates in the engine compartment.

Diamond plate

(with an additional rectangular plate for some countries).

It consists of:
- the vehicle type at (A) or French Ministry of Mines symbol;

- the chassis number at (B);

- the last 2 figures of the model year at (C),
commencing with 1974 models
(only for some countries).



Oval plate

It consists of:

at 1, the vehicle type or Factory symbol;

at 2, for 1973 models onwards only: - the first figure denotes type of gearbox;
- the second figure denotes any special feature.

at 3, the basic equipment according to country
(see table below).

at 4, for 1973 models onwards only, additional optional equipment fitted in production (rear screen demister, tinted windows, rear screen wiper/washer).

at 5, the fabrication number.

at 6, the model year
(only for some countries).

An"odd" second figure in the Equipment Number indicates that the engine has a lower compression ratio to suit certain countries.
Example: Equipment No 574 stamped on the oval plate.
