To the EX500 owner, I'm a sports compact car enthusiast. I own a '95 Honda Civic EX. I enjoy an occasional street drag with people who I do not know. Anyways, I do not race other Civics (because they perform about the same as mine). I always challenge guys with bigger blocks such as Integras and Preludes because I find them to be the bullies. Just a week ago my friend came up to visit from FL,he had lived here before but moved some three years years ago.Anyways,he liked my bike the miniute he saw it and wanted to ride,well,since he had a 98zx6 back in Fl. i said sure.A couple friends and I wer sitting on the porch watching as he got a feel for the bike,I geuss he tried to pick it up and it kept going up, up, up,and over. I could'nt look, when the bike stopped I went over to the curb and picked it up.left mirror broke,left turnsignal broke,gearshift(foot)broke off, fairingsdamaged badly,leftside chrome pipe badly damaged,the part that goes all the way around the dash f om both sides(with the glove box in it)shatterd,starter's out,plus lots more. Recently I had the misfortune of crashing my bike. Fortunately, there is only minimal damage. My fairing is cracked in several places, and I have a dent in my gas tank. I'm having trouble locating a fairing to replace mine, and also having trouble finding a lower fairing as well, as mine doesn't currently have one. Please e-mail me if you have a minute. I Have the same bike and I am interested in doing some work, performance/cosmetic. It had 16,000 when I bought it in Oct 98 and I put about 500 on it since, not much time to ride in Winter. Paid $950. It has a Yo hi pipe, but bad fumes. When I get off it I smell like I have been sitting in a closed garage. It back-fires and has a loud rummble. Any suggestions? I like your suggestions about the mirrors, I think I will try that b/c I am tired of seeing my arms. It has a small dent in the tank which a buddy is going to repair and paint for me for a case of beer. Mine too was laid down on the right side and needs some fairing work. Any suggestions on cheap repairs would be greatly appriciated. Any sugg's on imp oving speed performance, once again cheap?

First I'd like to say you have an interesting and informative web page, thanx for sharing it. Unfortunately when I got a Muzzy put on my bike, it wasn't until they did all the work and I picked it up that they told me they had to take the centerstand off. Luckily, it didn't interfere with the lower fairing, who knows what they would've done. Anyway, if you hear of an exhaust that can be put on along with keeping the centerstand, I would appriciate it if you could let me know. This way I'm a little more in ormed if I need to do something again. Also, is it true that if you put a wider tire on the back the bike becomes shakier, or more unstedy around turns? Or, what problems do you believe there are with putting a wider tire on? Thanx.

I have a LT250R suzuki Quad Racer that I removed the origional 250 2-stroke motor and modofied the frame to accept a '92 Ex500 motor. I have done much of t e same thing you had done by searching for the cheapest yet quality way of asembling my project. The motor is mounted and I have comleted the exhaust system and the cooling system. The final step I have is to take the enormous wiring harness that comes ith the stock bike and eliminate the wires that are not going to be of any use to me, and correctly hook up the few that are. If you can assist me in any manner I would greatly appreciate it.. And if I can get my hands on a digital camera I will e-mail yo a photo of it. It should be fast!!!!

I like the bike..I recently bought a 91 EX500 for 900 bucks-it has 7k miles on it..and it was laid down..the tank is dented, but there's no real structural damage, and there's a noise like a slapping of metal from the gear box, but a bike mechanic sa d about 500 bucks should make that right. I've ridden all my life, but never a cafe style sportbike, so it behooved (behoofed? hope not, it'd make it hard to keep em on the footpegs..hmhm) me to look into, research and basically learn all I could about t em..I want to make this bike into a great looking, fast ride.. Comments: Really EX 500 have a lot of potential. I have ridden with a lot of fixed up EX 500's and they can haul. That's what I did to my bike. I can kill most newer bikes and keep the low insurance rates! BTW- Love the California weather. It hit 115 here in Az. Try wearing leathers in this heat. I am glad that My Vanson pref. series held up well. Keep up the good work and I might stop by again. =)

Comments: I love Ex500's and what you've done with yours sounds great. I'm in the process of building a similar bike. I bought mine in a lot of different pieces though. One frame. One motor and ohlins shock and mount and one set of wheels and a lot of Ninja600 tuff I'm saving for later (too mach hastle to do all the mods right now, I just want it to run) Should finish later this week.
