Yerba Buena Gardens

There are some things we always do on our San Francisco Weekend...the Free Shakespeare in Golden Gate Park (this year, "The Comedy of Errors"), after walking through the Haight; coffee and canolli at Cafe Greco in North Beach; City Lights Books; a ride on the Bay; ride a bus, a cable car, Muni Rail, an antique streetcar, and BART; eat at one very good restaurant (Alfred's); and find at least one new thing. This time the "new thing" was Yerba Buena Gardens. It is an urban park/recreation/mall/theater/museum/gallery/food/culture experience that is now at the top of our list in San Francisco. It's on Mission, between 3rd and 4th...roughly. It's across the street from SFMOMA to the north, there's an iceskating rink, bowling alley and carousel to the east, the south side is METREON, a gigatheater/mall/foodcourt/video/interactive experience complex.

But, the Gardens...the central focus of the area...words fail me...almost. There is such a positive feeling here. Perfect Feng Shui...metal and air and earth and fire and water in balance to promote harmony. We took a couple of photos. Here they are...

The entrance, across from the Museum of Modern Art.

The upper terrace, with a view to SFMOMA.

Another view from the upper terrace.

The tromp l'oeil church on the lake.

..sky..

"The Shaking Man", left, and another tourist poser.

...and goodbye.
