7/20/98

It’s 10:30 pm, and we just climbed into the tent for the night. Janet is super tired, though I’m not, so I figured I would type in the day’s log. As I look out the tent door, I see the tail end of yet another great campfire. We are actually getting pretty good at starting fires now, and have not had to resort to Coleman Fuel yet! I can use the Leatherman to splinter kindling off of large logs, but I think we will buy a small axe one of these days to make it easier…

So… today. We slept in pretty late, then rode down to Gerbing to see what they could do about Janet’s suit. It’s not bad, but the kneepads are not really in the right place, and the arms are too long. They are going to fix the kneepads, and may try to fix the arms by tomorrow. If they don’t have a chance to do the arms, we will just use it as is for now, then send it back after the trip. At least the seamstress was able to see Janet in person and make notes for what has to be done.

Since Janet was now without a riding suit for the day, and we had to be back tomorrow morning, we paid for another night in the same site ($11) and ran some errands in town. We got our first roll of film developed at a one-hour shop, and then went across the street to a copy shop and for $9 got 15 of them scanned onto disk. Unfortunately the woman doing the scanning didn’t really know what she was doing, and neither Janet nor I were much better, so the scans aren’t perfect. The only problem is file size, each is about 400k, about 10x larger than they should be… no big deal for those of you reading this from work, but for dial up connections, it means it will take a while to download the pics. Hopefully in the next day or two we will get a chance to put the page together and get it posted to the website. Maybe from a coffee shop in Seattle or something, seems fitting :-)

Anyway, after that, we came back to the campsite with grand ideas of all kinds of neat things to do… and took a nap. We brought the thermarests out under the trees and slept in the shade. We did eventually walk down by the beach, Janet played with a cross-stitch kit she bought, and we cooked dinner (chili and Ritz crackers), but all in all it was a pretty low key day. Sort of a vacation from our vacation, I guess.

Some hot chocolate and a fire later, and its now time for bed. Tomorrow, we are going to ride up to Bremerton and take a ferry into Seattle to see if we can find anything fun to do there. I’ll let you know what we find!

later,
david.
