Today was a great day. We woke up and had day old bagels with James before heading out of town. Hope had to go to work early again, and we left town just before noon or so. The goal for the day was to get up to Union, Washington, because that is where Gerbing is, the makers of Janets suit. We need to have a few minor alterations done to it, so we are going by, and they have said they will try to fix it for us in a day. We will see how it goes

The morning ride was great. We did some small backroads from Portland heading Northwest, and had lunch in the town of Mist. The store we stopped at is the oldest continuously running store in Oregon, and sold a little of everything food, supplies, oil, antiques, you name it, a really neat place. The weather has been really odd, in a good way. Its HOT, and so far, not a drop of rain, even in Mist :-) Heading north from Mist, the road was freshly paved, wonderfully tight, and pretty uncrowded. It may have been the best road we have gotten to do yet, from a scenery/ride standpoint. Eventually, we met up with 30 again, and settled into the train of motorhomes headed for the coast. We crossed the Columbia River in Astoria on an amazing bridge. It was quite high, really long, and 2 lanes. Rather intimidating with the high winds, but we made it no problem.

Just into Washington, we stopped at the first rest area for information and a break. We were amazed to find volunteers with free coffee, punch and cookies! How nice of them. We got some maps, drank some punch, and headed north again. The rest of the ride was fabulous. Mostly wide flowing 2 lane roads with pretty light traffic, and endless amazing scenery. Neither of us has spent any time up here since being very small kids, and we were surprised at how cool everything is.

We found a campsite just outside of Union, WA called Twanoh State Park. Its right on the lake, and pretty nice. Its also only about 5 miles from Gerbing, so we will go there in the morning, and see what they can do about Janets suit.

We cooked Mac and Cheese tonight, and had another great campfire (we had to buy the wood this time, though).
