Well, thanks for taking your time to DL the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series SuperPatch. Before
you click "download", let's get some things squared away. First of all, after
the install is ran, there should be three new directories that are going to be needed to
run this patch. They are called "goodys" for the cars, "gdslay" for
the new layout, and "gdstrk" for the GDS tracks. I know, logically, that the
next question is "Well what tracks do I need to copy into the 'gdstrk' folder?"
I'm glad you asked, cuz you can do this while the patch is downloading, or let the install
do it for you. Personally, I recommend letting the install do it for you. Just have them
in your regular tracks directory, and that's all you need to have done. Instead of telling
you what tracks you'll need, I'll give you all the tracks ran on the schedule, in case
there's some version of, say, Caraway floating around that no one hardly knows about. So,
here they are:
Please keep in mind that the majority of Dash races are ran at night in conjunction with the regular Winston Racing Series Programs. So if you have the option between a night and day version, choose night except for Bristol and Daytona.
Second off, there needs to be some files in certain places. That's plain obvious. There
should be a 3dfx, rendition, regular, etc. starter for the Dash Patch in your nr1999
directory. If there isn't, please contact Tony
and mention the version you need, and it will be on its way asap. There also needs to be a
file called "gdsr.cfg". This is your race configuration file. If it is absent,
copy your "race.cfg" file and rename it properly. Then, of course, there should
be a calendar for the 1999 season. If it happens to be missing (which is unlikely, but in
any case...), you can get a copy at Sim-Racing.Com
or on our Add-Ons page. The final file in your n2 directory
should be "dash.dat", and its size should be around 175KB. Once all that's in
place, then make sure you have your Dash layout in the right folder, your tracks copied,
and then you're ready to race. Also, be sure your original
layout file is NOT read only. If it is, make it so it isn't.
If you'd like to avoid the hassle of renaming truck setups and all (since the NR1999 Version runs off of the truck engine), simply be sure to copy your Dash tracks into your regular directory for tracks. The install will copy them to the folders for you, along with check the compliancy of the setups, etc. PAINTING CARS: During the editing process, we edited the layout heavily. Obviously, the cars aren't the same format as the trucks. We tried everything in our power to get the game to read the paint for the cars in truck format. We changed the masks and everything. Still, nothing. If there is ever a patch for this problem, you can bet your bottom dollar you'll find it here first. Until then, you need to create a new car in the car section of the game. Paint it, etc. Then, exit the game, cut that car from the cars directory, then paste it in the "goodys" directory. Rename it "carname.trk" (with "carname" being the name you gave the car). Just make sure the extension reads ".trk" or the game will not recognize it. We do apologize for this inconvenience, but are working on a fix if possible.
Good Question. I know not everyone is a Pontiac fan, but because it is the predominant
car in the Dash Series, we chose it as our default player car. So somebody's gonna
have problems. Namely, some of you drivers that come here and drive Fords, Toyotas, etc.
(sorry Ned, Robbie, Charlie, and Larry!). Don't worry, as we will be working on some, and
posting them on our Add-Ons Page
. Some don't have installs, so you'll have to do those manually. If you need to know how
to work the pack/unpack utilities, give Tony an
email and a readme file will be on its way. Also, if you'd like a cockpit that hasn't been
posted (generic car make type), do the same.
Just as in any other form of motorsports, sponsors and drivers change. Don't fret, however, as we're gonna try to stay on top of things and produce new, accurate, 1999 cars. Everyone knows how to install these, and they'll be on the cars page. (And about Chris... Respironics decided not to return for 1999, but he will attempt a few races this year, as well as attempt a full BGN schedule in 2000)
Hold your horses!! You still have to click the mouse a few times to get the patch installed on your hard drive. And by clicking on the aforementioned words, you'll eliminate one of them. ;)
Oh yeah... whoops ------> Download.
