Texas Motor Speedway
As Assistant Editor of RAT Traxx magazine, otherwise known as Racing Across Texas Traxx, I sometimes get opportunities to visit race tracks for an insiders view of the racing world. This happened during 1997 when the magazine received press passes for two events at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The first event was a press conference at the Family Fun Center in North Richland Hills where Michael Waltrip, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Petty appeared. After the press conference management opened the go-cart track to our group and I had the opportunity to race twice against Kyle Petty... and beat him both times! The next day the NASCAR Winston Cup drivers were practicing at Texas Motor Speedway, an event also open to the press. Of course being the big race fans that we are we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the track, especially when we discovered we would be allowed in the garage area. What a thrilling day that was! We even got to ride along as passengers on the speedway while the officials were drying the track for practice. We wandered around the garage area and pit road taking pictures and talking to drivers for quite some time before we headed back home. I have assembled photos from that trip and set up photo albums to share with you. NASCAR Winston Cup Practice
The next big event held at Texas Motor Speedway was of course the NASCAR Busch Grand National and Winston Cup races in April. RAT Traxx was not "big" enough to get press passes for that weekend, but Texas Motor Speedway was kind enough to send us pictures to use in the magazine, and I have included a batch of them here.

The next major racing weekend at the Speedway was the NASCAR Sears Craftsman Truck Series race, the Legend Cars Celebrity race and the Indy Racing League race. This time we received one press pass and I was fortunate enough to be able to use it. It was another trip worth making, I enjoyed every minute of it and shot several rolls of film. Again I've set up several sets of pictures from that trip to share with you here.
