This is typically the first place that many will see a great deal of money shoot down the toilet when modifying their Miata. Thus, I decided not to be a chump and build my own system. For about $90 at the local muffler shop, I purchased a Walker Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. Installation was included in the price, but there is a trick to the low price that I can now see in hindsight. The muffler shop that installed my muffler welded the new unit onto the existing piping, rather than properly attatching the muffler with bolt-on flanges. PAY EXTRA AND HAVE THIS DONE PROPERLY!!! It will help out enormously in the future, if you plan to do any further modifications to the cat-back system.

Next, it would be wise to purchase a wider diameter cat-back pipe to maximize the air flow to the new muffler. Custom pipe can be bent, but make sure the bends are mandrel-type bends to maximize airflow. This is also an opportunity to mount your spare tire under the car for extra trunk space. On the other hand, you could go with an inexpensive new or used cat-back system.

Recommended systems that won't break your wallet are:

1. Borla Stainless Exhaust cat-back ~$275.00

2. ??? I'm open to suggestions
