THE 2000 CALI 500 WINSTON CUP

Nascar racing 2000 in Southern California. Well I'll say right upfront I didn't get to the track for the Sunday race. I did get to the track for Friday's qualifying though. On the Sunday racing, come Saturday I weighed a few factors and decided to opt for the remote possibility of another option.

OK ..time for the little wee adventure at weekend of nascar racing at the Fontana track for 2000.

Friday at the Winston Cup qualifying. For $10.00 and a quick drive to the speedway you can't pass that up.

For the winston cup race on Sunday... nope, I wasn't at the track at 6am like I usually would be. I found myself about 9am here---any clues yet? And no, the events that followed were not expected. I can't say THANK YOU enough to my dad, Mr & Mrs Benny and Diane, and Mr. Pat. Ms Melanie.. sorry I missed getting to see you today. I look forward to visiting again very soon and it was fantastic seeing you all again even if no one recognized me. LOL

Any ideas yet of what happens? Well before I knew it I was sitting next to my dad right here in this little space. Right in front was a bunch of them confusing instruments that I WISH I had a clue on knowing what they all meant.

It's about 9:50am now and we're up in the air now. I put my cammie out the window here once and learned REAL FAST not to do that.. LOL. AND we're not the only ones on the plane. Hmmmm. Straight ahead is GUESS WHAT?? Yeap.. the California Speedway on April 30th.. one hour before racetime.

There's the track and at 4500 feet up the appointment was set at 10:15 for the reason dad was flying here. Ok.. well there ya go. Dad was assigned to carry the skydivers for the pre-race show. The whole back of the plane was wall to wall jumpers. (yes I had my seat belt on REAL TIGHT). It was more of a thrill than I think I can say (probably not as thrilling as jumping out of the plane though).

After circling around the track a few times the first group jumps out and the second group gets set.

Circling around for the final time and the last of the jumpers leave and off to the Cali Speedway they go.. too cool. I was content still being IN the plane to be honest. It would've been nice to be at the track about that time but considering the options--I snugged up the seatbelt just a tad more. Back dad took us to the airport.

What a fantastic experience. :) Oh, and I have to get a pic of the pilot here for pete's sake (it's the best one I could manage being he was trying to fly the plane there). That would be Mr Dad. HIYA OUT THERE DAD. :)

Four miles away was the motocross track so after landing and spending a bit of time at the airport (ok I locked my keys in the car), I got in the little truck and set off for some dirt bike riding at the track for a few hours. From there it was back home to watch all the racing on tape. A day I'll never forget.

THE 2000 LAS VEGAS NASCAR WINSTON CUP
(Another desert black flag ending..Go figure)

A view of the race: (well...)

...A view from the hotel room that is. If you look REAL HARD in the distance you can make out the Las Vegas MotorSpeedway---OH WAIT---the RAINCLOUDS are in the way..LOL. I was at the track for the start of the race and first 20 laps. When the yellow/red flag was waved for rain I HIGHTAILED it back to the hotel and saved myself from becoming a human POPSICLE.. it was FREEZING there ---(yes I'm a cold weather wimp). And to Mr C3GO (AKA Mr. "V"..snicker) ---I HAD A FANTASTIC TIME (maybe the racing wasn't quite up to par but it was fun seeing a few laps being run. The Vegas'ing part is always fun by golly). THANKS SO MUCH for everything! I'm munching on some leftover steak as I speak--YUMMY!! Of course I'm a good few hundred dollars poorer from the slots too.. @#$@$@$.
