We are planning the "Total Street Rodding Experience" wrapped up into the "Holiday of a Lifetime" – we invite you to join us.
The Australian Regional Street Rod Nationals will be held at Easter in the Year 2000 at Cleveland, a small seaside town close to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Details for overseas entrants (any amounts mentioned are in Australian dollars).
Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland which is the northern state on the East Coast of Australia. Although Australia has only 19 million people it is physically the same size as the USA ( minus Alaska ). Queensland is a largish state – to drive from Brisbane to the northern town of Cairns is 22 hours solid driving - and you still are in Queensland and would have another 15 – 20 hours to reach the top. Our weather is that of Florida. Overseas & southern Australian visitors swim in our world class surf beaches in the middle of our winter!. This year locals were swimming at Easter (the end of our summer).
South East Queensland is where 90% of Queenslanders live. From the list below you will see that it is the mecca of tourism for Australia, New Zealand and Asian countries. Two weeks in this area would easily be filled in even for people who like to be constantly doing something. For longer holidays we would highly recommend flying into Cairns or Sydney and spend a week driving to the event.
The currency makes a holiday here very favorable for people from the USA / UK – The USA dollar is approx. $1.50 here. The Canadian dollar is approx. $1.09. General motel accommodation is around the $50 - $70 a night for a couple - at Easter we can expect to pay a little more. Accommodation / tours / airline bulk booking / etc can be handled by us as two very active members have their own travel businesses. Shipping or flying your car here is not prohibitive and we have people with experience in this area.
Local rental cars, etc can also be arranged for overseas visitors. A small car is $29 a day but rises for medium sized cars. More details to follow on this. RV prices are being sought at present. RV type camper-vans are available from $78 (2 people) - $160 per day (6 people). But – plus basic insurance of $15, full comprehensive $35. ( see www.britz.com for an example of what is available, or email them on [email protected] so they will post you details).
At the event there will be a very big emphasis on the entertainment of entrants - car events, non-car events, etc all with excellent prizes. We even have a side show alley arranged. The entertainment will be heavily angled towards entertaining ourselves – Red Faces night (acts, singing, etc), Inter Club games, etc. Full consideration for non-car activities for spouses, teenagers & children are also being planned. Overseas visitors will have plenty of activities they can join in on.
Car events will be varied but will also include cruises, Drive-In Movies, Model Car Competition plus Mt Cotton training track to let people really express themselves ( a training area for Mack truck operators where they learn to spin a semi & trailer !! )
On the entry form we will ask people if they have any non car activities they would like to do while here. If there is enough interest we can arrange a group deal e.g. Deep sea fishing, Diving, etc.
It's hard to recommend to you which day to come along, it depends on what you want to see. Saturday is full on with the 500+ Street Rods in a grand parade and doing grass events. This is also the day of the fireworks spectacular and Elvis Skydivers. Sunday is the Show & Shine day for the Street Rods and also for the extra 1000 odd Special Interest vehicles which are invited in on Sunday. FYI, Special Interest Vehicle admission is free, with the occupants paying the normal $10 admission and there is pleanty of trophies to win. So the day you come depends on weather you want to see action or a static show, either way, it's going to be a major blast!
Cleveland is ideally situated – 20 minutes south is the Gold Coast by blown 34 coupe (really 30 minutes). 30 minutes North and you are into the Sunshine Coast then to Noosa. To the West we have all the facilities of Brisbane, then Toowomba and surrounds, to the East Stradbroke Island, Australia’s most well known island. Locally we have the Redland Bay area with a long list of great attractions.
