My car is a 1992 Eagle Talon TSI which I purchased in July 1997 with 84,000Km. This
car has a 4 cylinder, 2.0 L DOHC, turbo-charged engine and all wheel drive.
The car is a lot of fun to drive because of its high level of performance and handling.
It also looks great. The above pic was taken on Oct.12, 1998. more pictures
And even more pictures taken Dec. 14 1997.
In stock form these cars perform very well, but with a few simple, low cost modifications they can be made much faster.
I have made some minor modifications to the air intake to improve performance. The air filter canister has been opened up to expose the air filter. The stock air filter has been replaced with a K&N. The lower MAS honeycomb has been removed as well as the silencer. The restriction in the intake nipple of the boost solenoid has been removed. Even with these rather minor modifications the car revs much freer and accelerates quicker.
On May 24, 1998 I drove to Toronto, well actually a little north west of Toronto, to attend Mark's (PPG) first ever mods party. While at the party, Mark installed a set of white face gauges on my instrument cluster. They look great and are much easier to read than the stock, black with white lettering, gauges. Thanks Mark for a fun party and great gauges. Living in the wilderness of Ontario, I don't often have an opportunity see modified DSMs. Check out Mark's Gauge Page.
So, I've got mod fever!! On May 29, 1998 I had an AutoMeter Phantom boost gauge installed by SpeedStyle Automotive Tuning, Ottawa. The boost gauge reads from 30 in. Hg vacuum to 30 psi Pressure. SpeedStyle mounted the gauge in a Camero A-pillar pod which they modified to fit the Talon. At WOT (wide-open throttle) I now know that with my mods to date which does not include a boost controller is giving me 14 psi of boost. I also had 8mm Taylor wires and a new set of NGK BPR7ES plugs installed.
On June 3, 1998 I had a 3" turbo back exhaust system installed SpeedStyle. This system includes a downpipe with 3" flex section, DynoMax 3" ss catalytic converter, DynoMax UltraFlow ss muffer and a ss tip. The rest of the system is 3" aluminized press bent pipe. There are flanges on each side of the cat so I can install a test pipe and easily remove the downpipe for maintenance. After attending Mark's mods party I now know this is a must.
