Readers' Rides

Jon, here are a couple of photos and brief info: This car was purchased in April 1966 by my grandfather in Detroit for his neighbor across the street. Options were AM radio, seat belts with retractors, rear window defroster, tinted glass and the mighty 318 "poly - wide block" and automatic. Interior color: pale green and exterior color: citreon green (pale green). The gentleman passed away a short time later and since my grandfather ran errands for the widow (she never learned to drive) a deal was made for him to purchase it. After 20 years of service, a wheel bearing gave out on the highway and my grandmother refused to ride in it anymore. It was passed to my father in exchange for helping purchase a newer vehicle. After passing my dad's tech inspection that summer I purchased it from him for $1.00. I drove the vehicle through my last couple of years at college everyday. After graduation I got a job which required a lot of driving so the Plymouth was retired in 1988 from daily duties and about 130,000 miles. In a weak moment I decided to restore this vehicle after placing a classified ad in the local paper. to be continued....

The photo with the dark green paint job is the first summer I had it (1986), and it was painted on that driveway by myself and friends.

The photo with the primer paint job is how I drove it from 1990 to 1996 for street battles, I got more races with the "318" then the "383", bring on those Mustangs and Camaros.

The photo in the garage is with the body shop's 20/20 paint job (20 feet and 20 miles per hour look pretty good). Currently the suspension is back on and the engine & trans went in this past weekend (April 26th) we can roll around the garage. I am optimistic that I can make the woodward cruise this august (maybe towed behind my jeep). A couple other things: "No man with a good car needs to worry about nothing. No man with a good car needs to be justified" - Quoted from the band, Ministry. Mopar stands for: M = Move O = Over P = Plymouth A = Approaching R = Rapidly Got to go, Paul
