1964 Plymouth Fury with 426 Street Wedge

The one tire doesn't stand a chance against the 426.

In '68 I bought a '64 Ply. Fury w/ a 426W in it. I was cruising past this Rambler dealer the next town over and there it was in the front row of the used car lot. I didn't know it was a 426 'till I went back to take a look. Talk about a kid in a candy store. I left my cherry '62 Olds StarFire and took the Ply. for a ride. It would lite the tires @ will. It was the 365 hp version (street wedge) w/ push button auto trans. I couldn't believe any one would issue this set-up with an "open" rear axle asm.! I think it was a ratio of 3.23 to 1. Top end was better than 1/4 mile. Needless to say I sold it in '70 to a friend in town and bought a '70 Duster 340 auto which I kept for 9 years. Just married a year in '70 I needed something a little more reliable and that gave better gas mileage. Right now I'm on the prowl for a replacement. I'm not going to throw in the towel on my old original '64 yet. I've got a few leads as to where it may be, however they are years old. I'll make a few phone calls to the people I know owned it after me. Work calls, gotta run. Richard
