Max for the Next Millennium?

When the Vmax debuted in 1985 it immediately assumed the "King of the Hill" position. Lesser bikes quaked in Max's presence. "Pee Wee" Jay Gleason rode a factory prepped model to an astonishing 10.32 in the 1/4 mile. This was the quickest production vehicle in the world, bar none.

Well over the years, Max has developed a cult following based on its "in yer face' attitude and the perceived ability to back it up. But like an aging bar brawler, today Max tries to put fear into the hearts of potential challengers by growling and relying on a hefty reputation built up over the years. But the truth of the matter is, Max is getting slower. He can no longer trounce the "up-'n-comings", particularly the recent high hp to lb. sportbikes. This new breed of "tupperware torpedoes" are cocky and willing to take Max on, instead of tucking in their taillights, turning the corner and running away like the 'fraidy bikes of a few years ago. Still hard to beat in the 1/8th mile, Max has been taking a few whippings lately at the end of the quarter. Even 600's are occasionlly trying to spin sand on his tires...(they get spanked for doing it but that's not the point...they shouldn't even have the audacity to try). Max lovers everywhere are responding to the increasing number of challenges by hod rodding Max...but we wonder, where is Yamaha???

So, now the $64,000 question ... is Max destined to fade into "never updated" oblivion, abandoned by the factory (but loved by those who have him) or will Yamaha have the balls to update Max to reclaim his former glory as the quickest, baddest, kick ass bike ever to prowl the streets....I voting for a resurgence!

Here are a few examples* of the next possible Max that many of us MaxNuts would like to see...

...... ....... ....... ....... ...... .....

This comes from a French site...

The MT-01...yes its unique and a great bike design in its own right...but no, despite rumblings by some of the media, it's not a Vmax replacement. True muscle bikes aren't powered by V-twin push rod engines!
