The Lego Coal mine
Some Pictures taken of my lego coal mine. This mine is a simluation of a shaft mine, complete with pithead, and winding engine. The boiler
house is under construction at this time (feb 12 2000). The tipple is going to be operational, to compliment the mindstorms driven coal unloader
So, I will be able to both load and unload coal using mindstorms. This one is a fair amount simpler than the unloader as far as mechanicals go for the
loader portion, however, the accessories for the mine take up a large amount of technic (2 motors, a F/O unit and a bunch of gears, so far)
The tipple buildings are modular, with the tipple being separate from the washing house. The washing house (which was not finished in either picture) contains
the mindstorms RCX to control the mine. I use the Lego programing script to make my programs, not NQC or pbForth.
A slightly more recent picture, however, at this point I have not yet finished the boiler house even still. There are some pictures taken of parts of
the boiler house, as I am trying to take pictures that will work of the inside of it...
On the same roll of film as this, I tried to take 8 or so night shots, not a one turned out usable. I will have to revise how I was trying to get the shots to
work, I have a few ideas now as to what to try. First I will finish the boilerhouse, even if it only has one boiler of the 3 that it should have in it to date.
The winding engine for the mine...complete with crosshead guides, and the engineer. You cannot see it, but he is weilding his
all purpose tool, a large pipe wrench.
On our way out to NFLD from BC, we stopped in Springhill, NS. I have allways wanted to go to the mine. I'd guess it is one of the things that you just have to do. The photo
is of my wife down about 300 ft in a drift mine.
