Engine Oil Leak
Engine oil leak is only reported at B16A,VTEC,engine and
not severe problem limited in early stage model but
common.

Oil
leak appears around Cam Shaft End area.

One del Soler reported he replaced Packing 3
times.
This does not affect Engine performance just make dirt
Engine Room.
Many people probably do not find it because oil is very
small volume and usually hidden with dust.
If you did not check it up , please try to look inside of
your del Sol
ABS alarm
light display

This paragraph
describes about ABS function and typical problem and
solution.
1. First, what is Anti-Brake lock System (ABS).
ABS prevents out of control mode on the slippery road
caused by locked wheel.
Locked wheel occurs by quick brake on the snowy or rainy
road
There are wheel rotation sensors around wheels to observe
wheel rotation.
Based on Sensor signal, actuator controls the brake oil
pressure to prevent wheel lock using compressed oil from
accumulator.
2. ABS alarm display is for sending an error message of
ABS to Driver.
Once alarm light displayed, ABS function does not work
and return to only standard brake function.
3. Problem and cause
3.1 ABS alarm display does not eliminate
This case sometimes occur by air bubble in the oil and
easily will be repaired by release air from the oil
circuit.
When Wheel locked signal sensed by controller,
accumulator works to reduce the oil pressure and release
locked Brake to free.
Quick pressure change from High to Low causes to make air
bubble in the oil. Oil Pump works to get high pressure in
several 10 seconds and pressure gauge does not detect
high pressure. This signal means "Not enough
oil".
3.2 If you heard Oil Pump rotating sound in several 10
seconds,there is a possibility of real oil leak.
3.3 ABS alarm sometimes displays when driving with
Parking Brake is not release in about 30 seconds.

Warm
air intake when air switch is Off
Do you have
the trouble constant warm air blows even air switch is
turned Off
This is easily appeared just to set temperature is warm
and air out side intake is On.
During outside intake is On, the air naturally get into
the room according to Temperature setting on the console
board.
To prevent this problem, turn air direction switch to
inner circulation or adjust temperature.

Fog
Light doesn't work
Abbreviations:
A: Accessory Light
F: Fog Light

This is a story how to
control Fog Light performance from driver's seat.
According to Japanese Regulation, A and F ,both work, at
the same tome is not
permitted. This is one of the reasons why we need
complicated control.
Following is a procedure
The point of this procedure is to keep step 1 , 2, 3.
1. Small Light Switch (SW) is ON at Steering column
2. A SW is ON at Parking Brake Lever
3. Select A or F SW to change A or F at Shift lever.
If you turned off Small Light (SW) at step 1, both lights
will be turned OFF.

Idling
failure
What is a
normal RPM
Engine and Controller Performance
At starting, Controller keeps up to 1000 RPM before warm.
If you power on the air conditioner , Controller acts to
get much higher RPM.
You need to know how engine works at standard RPM
described in manual and also how to measure RPM by Taco
meter.
Be sure to look your taco meter,the bottom Bold is 500
RPM not Zero.
Did you experience unstable engine RPM at starting or
idling with some engine noise?
This is a summary of many reports regarding starting and
idling.
Spark Plug:
The many case of noise probably causes spark related.
1. Aged Plug: If you
did not replace Spark Plug for long time, first replace
it old to new one.
2. Wrong spark plug gap:This is reported maybe damaged by
human error at periodical test and maintenance
3. Additional Know-how (see Spark Plug Positioning)
Plug Cable:
If you heard much stronger noise, check your Plug Cable.
Plug Cable is easily aged by own heat created by high
electrical current.
Check your Plug Cable cut or not using Meter.
Spark Plug Positioning ( To get much higher engine
performance)
When you replace Plug, position them to the plug spark
gap side against engine intake valve direction.
Of course, you need some marking around Plug Stud .
This is sometimes hard to position for Used Plug but easy
brand new Plug because used plug has damaged spring
washer.
Most user does not understand the reason why but many
user experienced this effect.
OEM
Plug Cord doesn't fit
This paragraph's
individual supplier's name is intentionally hidden,
because it involves some harmful information for Plug
Cord supplier.
One del Soler reported replaced new OEM Plug cord was
loosen during run.
This problem
was reported from same Soler two times about same
supplier.
Plug cord connector
should be installed without any gap.
The possible
cause is:
1) Wrong
Dimension.
2) Some particle exist at connection area.
3) Oil leakage from
cylinder.

Damaged
Distributor
This is one of the causes that Engine does not work.
If your sol has over 50K mileage, it has a possibility to
face this typical sudden death trouble.
Distributor rotates much higher RPM than Engine estimated
two times.
This means it has much shorter life time than engine
cylinder.
To avoid this trouble at your drive, check out your
Distributer by your own eyes.
In case of you found some brown/red rust particle, you
need replace it.
If you already heard Noise from Distributer, You have to
replace it immediately.
How to check Distributer:
1. The location is the side of Engine, and you can reach
the End of cable to follow four plug cables. Oh, this is
it.It is coloured in Black.
2. Remove three screws.
3. Start to check.
( Be sure not input dust or water.)
4. Clean up four Poles.

Blinker
failure
Wrong Blinker operation
In only early stage model, Blinker wrong operation is
reported.
The phenomenon is when you make quick turn to the right /
left,the opposite side blinker energised.
The other problem is Blinker does not work to blink just
continuous light on.
This is repaired to install a thin plastic plate.
If you have same problem, visit your dealer.
PGM-FI
alarm light display
This is complicated phenomenon because many del Soler can
ride even alarm light displayed.
PGM detects several parts condition and reports to
Driver, however it is still unclear for total solution.
These are possible causes which were reported..
1. Broken Distributer
2. Broken O2 Sensor
3. Broken Sensor
4. Control CPU failure
5. Released knocking Sensor connector

Coolant Leak
This is Examples reported from VTEC del sol owners, not a
clear problem solving, just give you a suggestion if you
faced same problem.
1. High Mileage?
In general,it depends on your mileage, if it was old, the
possible leak points are around Water pump or aged
coolant tubing.
2. Broken Radiator?
In case of Coolant change from old to new one, do not put
on a drop of coolant liquid on the radiator fins. It has
a possibility to make damage of radiator wall.
3. Go to dealer with your del Sol
Finally , the point is to make it clear first ,where the
leak occurred, you will bring your Sol to your dealer to
check it up because check is free.
( Free is maybe Japan only ? )
Damaged Fuel Pump
(No Pic)
This is one of causes that Engine does not work.
Damaged Distributor is well know but this is another
cause.
If Distributor is OK, check out your fuel tubing pinch by
your finger to feel fuel pressure or not.
No pressure felt, you need to replace Fuel Pump.
Fuel Pump is located inside of Gas tank.
Therefore this repair should be done by remove Gas tank
or from a maintenance
hole after peeling off the interior behind the seat.
Engine
doesn't start
Based on the
many reports, this problem probably occurs under the
condition of Engine is hot and the weather temperature is
warm too.
Starter Motor works well.
After Engine is cooled down, this problem disappears.
This paragraph does not cover all problems.
Focused on One of the possible causes, it is a broken or
failed Main Relay case.
Check out to hear fuel pump sound (zZZZ....ing) from the
rear at ignition key is ON.
This Pump sound will automatically stop in 2-3
seconds.This is a sound from Pump to make high pressure
of fuel.
Finally, you will hear the Main Relay's working sound
(paching).
If you can not listen this sound , Main Rely must be
failed or dead.
Main Relay's dharactrelistics depends on the Temperature.
There are intermittent error and permanent error case.
Intermittent case is very hard to test because it maybe
contains complicated conditions.
