57 Chevy Project
Resin

Lesson #1
Well, it's time to get started!
For this project, a resin kit of the 57 Chevy Black Widow, here are some basics.
You should have the following basic tools:
1) A good quality hobby knife. This can be an Xacto knife (I recommend a #1-sized knife, especially the "Gripster" knife, for it's safety features) or a similiar knife.
2) Needle files. These are the really small, fine files (about 6" in length). Two types are recommended (but if you have, or wat to buy, a full set, no problem!): A half-round, and an "Equalizing" file. The Equalizing file has a flat cutting side, with a back side that is "peaked", making for a triangular cross-section, and the file itself is tapered to a point.
3) Wet-or-Dry sandpaper. This is the black paper used in auto-body shops for sanding primer. I strongly urge you to buy the top quality sandpaper here--cheap just does not do it! Now, the recommendation: 400-grit, and 600-grit, 3M "Tri-M-Ite". This is available at good auto supply stores.
While not absolutely essential, a pin-vise and a set of small drill bits are helpful, especially with a resin kit, as often the locating holes that ought to appear in some parts do not, due to the delicate nature of the RTV Rubber molds (the rubber "pin" that would make a locating hole in a resin part is the first part of any mold to go bad, believe me!)
One last note here: While the thrust of this section is to build up the resin conversion (transkit) of the 57 Black Widow, I realize that there may be some of you who would want to know what exactly was done to the AMT/Ertl kit to make it a 150 2dr sedan. If there is sufficient interest, I will put up information as I go, as to how this conversion was achieved.
Enough for now, class! Your assignment? Get the stuff you need to do this conversion (resin kit!)
