Sport Package - The most popular option. It included a stiffer suspension, rear spoiler, lower front airdam in some cases, 14x6.5" BBS Basketweave alloy wheels, an oil cooler, M-technic three spoke steering wheel, Recaro sport seats, and a trunk mounted battery. It also usually came with all the other accessories that weren't actually part of the sport package - power everything, On-Board-Computer, etc. The Sport package was denoted by an "s" on after the model number on the trunk, i.e., 325is I know there are other parts to the Sport package but they slip my mind right now, I will come back and put them down as I remember them. Cabriolet - was available on the later 318i and 325i. It was heavier and the body was much more flexible; it never came in a "sport" version. But it is nice for "cruisin'".
Four Wheel Drive - was designated by an "x" after the model number on the trunk; it was only available for the 325i, so all four wheel drives were 325ix's. It was made from '88 until '91. Sorry, I don't know a whole lot about the workings of the four wheel drive system. If this really upsets you ... you need help.
The Plague of the pre-89 E30: Aluminum Bumpers!!! There were a couple facelifts to the E30 over its model run, but none were near as substantial and as much needed as the replacement of the chrome 5mph bumpers (diving boards, battering rams, whatever you want to call them) with body colored plastic bumpers, in mid 1988. There are several aftermarket kits that mimic the look of the newer bumpers, as this is a major sore point on pre-89 E30s, and many people try to find a mid '88 or later model when they are purchasing an E30 for this very reason. The chrome bumpers can be converted to the '88 bumpers, but the '89s and newer use a different mounting system that requires a lot of hard work and maybe some fabrication to convert them.
