In Response To: Let's talk clutches... (Jason N. (Atlanta))
"Buy the OEM clutch, and put the saved money towards a lightweight flywheel." Randy Walters
and that, that has made all the difference. Well, I found it to be good advice, at least. And I drive my car very hard, too. First, I found the cost to be prohibitive. The OEM set-up from BavAuto included all the stuff you need, including the clutch/PP/TOB, all new gaskets, seals, everything for $230, I think it was. The sport clutch disc and sport PP were BOTH $200+. Add in the TOB, all the gaskets, nuts and bolts, and that's more than twice the cost of the stock Sachs set-up. Next, neither mine not your engine is modded enough to need the extra clamping power of a sport clutch, all it will do is make the car a little less streetable. Unless your clutch is slipping because you are making too much hoprsepower, a sport clutch will not lower your lap times. A lightweight flywheel, however, will. I got mine from Metric Mechanic for $250. Very worth it, IMO. Maybe not the bang-for-the-buck effect of a $250 chip, but definitly worth it, especially since I don't plan to drop the tranny again for a long, long time. It is a noticable improvement, and the effect on street diving is negligible. I like it, FWIW.
