I wrote this ages ago and I have been asked about it a lot recently. It is information regarding methods of cleaning injectors. With regards to cleaning injectors there are two methods.
1. Off Car cleaning which is exactly what it says. The injectors are to be pulled out of the manifold and cleaned in an ultrasonic bath (small pulsations that remove the dirt) DO NOT PULSE THE INJECTORS WHILST THEY ARE IN THE BATH. This is a temptation that many succumbe to, and it actuallt ruins the solenoid inside theinjector. The advantage with off car cleaning is that after you clean them you can flow them (check the rates at which they spray and the spray pattern). You should change the Seals and you should also change the pintle caps (the plastic caps over the nozzles).
2. Oncar cleaning. This isolates the injector rail and connects a pressurised canister with a formula in it (G808)to a compressor. This has the advantage of cleaning the injectors and releasing the soft carbon deposits on the back of the vavles. The hard carbon is not a worry as it doesn't have the ability to soak up fuel that the injector sprays. (remember that fuel is sprayed onto the back of the valve) The car needs to be running, and the fuel lines disconnected to do this. (Although this is not a DIY exercise without the machine).
Dont use the Injector cleaner fuel additives,(the ones from the service stations) they are a waste of time and not worth the plastic that they are packaged in.
Another thing is how long before your last injector clean?. Does your cas hesitate when the accelerator is first depressed. I know in Australia, we have poor fuel and wax build ups tend to block the pintle of the injector. They need to be cleaned every 30 - 50 ooo kms.
Hope this helps. Feel free to comment.
