Open the hood, and look at the top center of the firewall, just below the weatherstripping. You will see a panel that is about 8 inches tall and 1.3 feet wide. a pair of metal lines run across and attach with black plastic clips. You need to loosen these, then undo the 4 or 5 nuts (8 or 10mm) that hold the panel on. Next, pull the bottom forward and pull the top down (out of the weatherstripping) Underneat, you will see a black plastic cover that is roughly the shape of the twin blower motor wheels. There are 2 white plastic snap straps holding the cover on. Undo them and you expose the blower motor, which comes out after undoing a single metal strap and 2 metal spade connectors.
If you get it out and spin the motor by hand, it should spin freely. If it is tight, replace it. I tried freeing it up with a 12-volt charger and lotsa oil. no luck. A good price is $120-$150.
Make sure when you reinstall it, you line up the motor housing correctly. Easy way is to pay attention to where the motor contacts are. one on top, and one up front f I recall correctly. Just look how the old one is. You'll know when it is in correctly..it doesn't rock or move at all.
Many parts stores identify the correct blower motor assy. by brand and fan diameter. (mine was Bosch, 5" I think)
Installation is reverse of removal. (gee i sound like a haynes manual)
