Dad's '68 Bug

This is dads bug, pretty nice huh?
 More pics of vw:
Car 1

Pretty nice, For only $500.

This is the Front Trunk, i painted it my self :)
Those are snow tires from a Super beetle, our Pastor gave us a pair for free, and we needed a spare, so I  threw it in.

This is the engine, Its never been rebuilt, but we did a tune up on it. and all new basic top parts. I assumse it is the original 1500cc engine. But it goes pretty fast, so I'm not sure. It does have a 30 PICT carb. on It, so I just don't think about it, it makes me more and more confused.
notice the oil funnel in the corner, my dad hung it there, He uses about 1 quart every tank of gas, The engine leaks a lot, well not to bad, but it still leaks. I am going to rebuild it this summer.

DAY 2
We got the shell off after 10 hours of work the night before and the day after. 10 a.m. we had the shell off. and started right in.

The floor pans literally touched the ground, at least one...this is actually in pretty good condition, ou can see the heater channel bolts and there mountings still on.

As you can tell a sight for sore eye's.
I am in the midst of digging up what ever old pictures of this I can find.

Update... new rims $350, plus lugs, and caps.
Engine, runs decent....a little shacky sometimes...clutch is too tight, and the front right wheel bearing is bad..
We ordered the front bearing, and were gonna replace it soon.

Today wee finally got the drivers side washer to work. It all happened by accident. First off I went to try to fix the washer flued, not knowing there was a hole by the washer, the flued/water, sprayed all over the radio, and I heard a nice cracl;ing sound even though the car was off. Wow, not good, the kept flowing even after I turned it off. So here I am now crackling radio, dad standing by me with fire in his eye;s, and watrer pouring down the back of the radio. Well, we cleaned it up, and then we took, the air vent out, and then the radio(which still had water coming out) and then the wipper motor, etc. Then we got the rusted old wiper pivot shaft sucker thing undone. Well, needles to say 2 hours later, and a little bit of weld we got it in, the radio is fried, and the washers don't, we were trying to kill to many birds with one stone...let me tell when one thing gets fixed on this car, another goes out....when will it end....oh, the insanity!!!!

Oh the beetle...I have successfully pulled the engine, and stripped it down to the jugs. Cleaning and repainting nearly everything,. i hads to replace almost all the seals, and the main seal, was the leakiest. when replacng don't forget the little circle seal in the fly wheel itself, thats vital. The clutch disk was shot to *%$#@ and well, that was the main reason for taking out the engine, It is in tonight, i took it out yesterday atr about 3:00, and stopped work at 12:00(a.m.) I replaced pushrod seals too. I also reground the oil pump face plate, for better oil pressuure. The tranny needed new rear mounts so those were also replaced, as well as a new gas line to get rid of the old original one, that ripped in half on a slight pull.
I ahve to tighten a gas line, and put one more engine, bolt on, in order to get that last one, i needed 2 people, its the starter one. I also have a broken arm, with an elbo cast...that stinks, its greasy too.
it should be up and going tomorrow. I am going to try to take it to michigan to our cottage.
