My 1971 Camaro’s Partial-Resto.

The patch panels I used for the rear quarters are not full replacements instead they just go up to the ridge as you can see. By using these panels instead of full quarters we did not have to mess with the factory lead seam that connects the quarter panels to the roof. My uncle suggested that we use sheet metal screws to hold the panel in place while he welded it. He ran beads of weld in-between each screw then we took the screws out and he finished the welds.
The part that was the hardest about replacing the panels was learning to not use too much body filler when we smoothed out the weld area. (I told you we knew nothing about body work.) The body man that primered and painted my car had to come down to the shop to show us how it was done. He took an air sander with 24 grit paper and removed most of the body filler that my dad and I had put in. He then went back over the area with a very light coat and then sanded a little more and it ended up perfect!
Here you can see my uncle welding the patch panel up.

This picture is of the repairs made to the front fenders.

See! I told you we put a lot of body filler on those welds!!!
