Avoid riding in convoys Last updated 16 Aug 2003 Back to D'Singapore Scene
The Straits Times Interactive Jan 5, 2000 Avoid riding in convoys, bikers told KUALA LUMPUR -- Motorcyclists have been advised not to move in large convoys during the balik kampung rush ("return to home town") for Hari Raya (new year) as this poses high risks. Bukit Aman traffic-enforcement officer DSP Mohamed Karim Abu said that, because of higher volumes of traffic during the festive season, motorists should exercise more caution. According to statistics, more accidents occurred during festive seasons than on other occasions, he said. "Motorcyclists make up the highest number of fatalities in road crashes during festive seasons, compared with other road users," he said. He said since Ops IV was launched on Dec 23, 66 of those who died in road accidents were either motorcyclists or pillion riders. -- Bernama
