EUROPA

1966 saw the appearance of the Europa, a mid-engined coupe, Initially intended for export.
The Europa was powered by a 1470cc overhead valve Renault engine, driven by a 4-speed Renault gearbox.

The steel backbone chassis was used, with the fibreglass body initially bonded to it, which made accident repair vey difficult.
The early models also had fixed windows, thus making the cockpit very hot in the summer.

In 1967, the Europa was changed to Series 2 with many initial problems being overcome. The chassis was now not bonded to the body panels and electric windows were included. The interior trim was also improved.

It took until 1969 for the Europa to appear on the home market, where like previous models, it was offered in either kit form or ready built.

1973 saw the Lotus-Ford engine fitted to the Europa, it was now designated the Europa Twin-Cam and a special edition was fitted with a 5-speed gearbox.

One great Europa strength was its aerodynamic efficiency, registering a cd factor of 0.29, equal to a 16 valve Vauxhall Calibra produced some 20 years later.

Europa production ran until 1975.
