01JUN2002 - NOTE: after some
menaces and after having the Site switched off-line for many days I had to
surrender to the Geocities/Yahoo pressure and bought 100 MB of space that
will have to be paid monthly. This may lead me to transform this Site to a

only. It is clear that those who helped by sending material for the survey
will receive a password for free. This transformation will take some time...

in São Paulo Brazil. In that region there are several recovered parts

Pinheiros, also in São Paulo. The chronology is somewhat confusing. I have many
pictures to be put "on-air" but I'm giving priority to the contributions the

Marcelo Larsen from Joinville-Santa Catarina/Brazil. It is the result of a University
work, specifically during the modeling classes. It was not a new project but it was made
based upon one existing design - the VW Beetle. During this classes he learned how to
manufacture the final products as results of their design. This model was made from
cellular concrete, covered by three layers of plastic mass. It was painted with
automotive paint, color "Yellow-Imperial" original for the '75 Brazilian VW Beetles.
The windows were made with plastic film "Contact" and the wheels are mat black.

Ramalho Hospital from the City of Maceió/AL, Brazil. I saw this artwork in a calendar at my physiotherapist
Daniela Duran's office.She shares the house with some psychotherapists, and the said calendar was issued by the
Regional Psychology of the Brazilian State of São Paulo. The artist Durval Ramalho won a Honor Distiction with
this artwork that was painted with acrylic colors on canvas.

Car Rental of Tasmania that nowadays still rent VW Beetles! Another nice contribution of
Lyndon Hookham from New Zealand.
28APR2001 - Added the Phot1319 and 1320 to the
PAGE 5 of the Cartoons with the Shape/Image of the VW-Beetle section. Both
were scanned out of the Magazine Quatro Rodas issue MAR 1989. The Phot1319 is the illustration
of an article about automobiles that did not comply with the regulations. The Sheriff of the
Photo is hunting the "outlaw vehicles", among them is a VW Beetle that appears on a Wanted
Poster. I do like this cartoon very much because the Sheriff is very funny.
The name of the article is: "Os Fora da Lei" that stands for "The outlaw's". The Phot1320 is
the illustration of an article about people with a weak memory that use to forget everything.
The article's name is: "Rodando no Mundo da Lua" that stands for "Driving in the moon". [Page

The Phot1317 and 1318 were scanned out of the issue from APR1986 from the Magazine 4x4 (Quatro
por Quatro & Pickup). The Phot1321 and 1322 were scanned out of the issue MAR1989 from the
Magazine Quatro Rodas. They show mainly advertisements of Baja Bugs, Buggies, Jeeps and
MG Replicas, all with VW Beetle mechanical components. [Page status 05/12]
25APR2001 - Added the new page
Special: Hans Schieber PAGE 1 of the Art Photography's with VW Beetle section. Hans
Schieber came to visit Brazil with his photo camera and his pet. His pet is a golden scale 1/36
VW Beetle model that he got from his mother, as he was a kid. He got the idea of using his pet
as the leitmotiv of his pictures. Here you can see a part of his Brazilian collection.

"To you that are interested; this was produced in Norway in 1953-1954, and
they only were produced there.....it measures about 20x25x25cm and has very
nice images on all four sides and also on the hinged lid. Crossing handles

This is a Bambus-Beetle found in the Pavillon of Malaysia from the Expo 2000 Hannover/Germany.
He wrote the folowing: the purpose was to show that you can realize a lot of things in bamboo
(the beetle was over 1 1/2 meter long) really pretty...

PAGE 4 to the Fusca Brazil '93's comeback series of the Cartoons with the Shape/Image of
the VW-Beetle section. This page is the continuation of the PAGE 3, also with many
examples collected by my Mother Marguerite Gromow. It takes time to prepare this pages
due to the preparation of the captions, but in my opinion it is a good way to keep track
on the history of 1993. Phot1215 to 1226. [Page status 12/12]
11FEB2001 - Added the
PAGE 3 to the Fusca Brazil '93's comeback series of the Cartoons with the Shape/Image of
the VW-Beetle section. Most of the examples shown in this PAGE 3 were collected by my
Mother Marguerite Gromow, back in 1993; and were originally published by the Newspaper
"O Estado de São Paulo" - in short: OESP. You can see the almost every day the VW Beetle
was used in cartoon that were made to criticize the President Itamar Franco and the
come back of the VW Beetle to the Manufacturing lines. Although it
is utmost difficult to explain the context of these cartoons because of the complicated
political implications, I tried to give some hints to some of the examples. Phot1203 to 1214.

Antonio Carlos de Lemos, from São Paulo/SP-Brazil. He took this picture of a Brazilian
VW 1600 with 4 doors (known as "Coffin Joe" - Zé do Caixão) in the city of São Tomé das

PAGE 1 of the section Art Photography's with VW Beetle. The Phot1199 shows one example of
a series made by the German Designer and Photographer Hans Schreiber, from Berlin. He took one golden VW
Beetle toy 12 cm long (scale 1/36) and used it as model in the most different situations. In
this example the "golden model" was photographed on the sand, seems to be a real VW Beetle...

erected at the end of last year. It was designed by the schoolchildren themselves,
who range in age from 5 years old, to 10 years old. The school is in a rural area
called Wainuioru and is approximately 15 -20 minutes drive east of Masterton, where
I live. With the thousands of late model Japanese motor vehicles in New Zealand now,
especially the big, lumbering 4wd's seen in the rural areas, I am surprised that the
children chose to include a Beetle in their picture. I have been out that way several
times recently and have never seen another VW out there, so I wonder what their
inspiration was. [Page status 02/12]
