June 2002 Trip to Eddyville Raceway Despite the short notice given by yours truly I am thankful Mike Crees, Chad Parker, Bob & Lori Jordan, Eric Amy and Keegan Wolfe, Vince Wallerich and Amber Ahrens were able to make this trip. Most of us met at the Pronto station in Pleasant Hill and drove down to the track where we met the rest. It was a scorcher that day but it was cooling off as the sun started getting lower. When they opened the lanes we started lining up against each other in pretty even match ups. First off were Mike Crees and Chad Parker in their pick-ups. Chad had trouble hooking up with his stick and Mike took him with his automatic. Then came mine and Vince's 74's. I pulled a quicker reaction time than Vince and was able to keep it down the track but he was fractions from getting me with a faster slightly faster ET at the top end. Then Eric and Chad squared off in their respective Camaro and Trans Am. Again Chad had problems finding traction with his 6-speed and Eric marched to the win. Bob was having traction problems too and never hooked up. We matched with each other the best we could and things went fine until Bob had his oil pick up squirt off his pump halfway down the track while racing Chad. We made a few more runs and watched some other races and then got ready for the trip back. We loaded Bob's car on Chad's trailer and were getting ready to leave when we got word that one of the motorcyclists had hit the guard rail at the big end of the track at speed. We all knew it would be bad and it was, he died later that night. But overall we had a fun night which will hopefully be repeated later this year. This is too much fun to do just once and there are many people who couldn't make this trip so look for another to be planned in the Fall. Mike McGillis
