Hello fellow Bug lovers. You actually came to the about me page? I can tell you right now that there isn't anything incriminating or too divulging in here, so you can turn back now.

My real name is Justin Dike. I use D.K. as my screen name, because that is now my last name is pronounced. I am a 23 year old analyst for a long distance phone company...I choose not to mention the name because they haven't done anything for me lately. I got introduced to Bugs when I was about 2, and I've stuck with them ever since.

I bought my first Bug when I was 17...didn't have the money or the height when I was 2. It was a '70 that had more colors on it than in the rainbow, but as far as Bugs go, this one was the most fun...for me anyway. I wrote a story about it that was actually published in some paper somewhere, but I can't find it, or the disk I stored it on, so I can't share it with you. After my '70, there were at least 8 more: '66, '66, '66, '74, '64, '65, '66, '65...some I owned twice. Out of the total nine, two ran when I bought them, though six of them had complete engines. Out of the total nine, I have only driven four.

Bringing home 9 run down Bugs when you live with your parents, doesn't usually go over well, especially if they don't share your same love for them. I had to resort to:

  • parking them across the street so my parents won't notice them
  • bringing them home and putting them in the garage while my parents were at work, consequently putting my father's car outside
  • parking them on the side of the house behind a bush, hoping that no one would notice...they did, and so did the county
  • sneaking them into the backyard with hopes that my parents won't glance over at "my area."
With the exception of the last one, so far, none of these tactics worked. My parents always found them and gave me hell about each and every one up until the fourth Bug, then they gave me a double door on the gate, a nice new garage in the backyard, and some space for all my projects. Thanks Mom and Dad, not so much for the support, but for understanding that "I have a problem" that can only be cured by fweemin'. :o)
