Found in a field in Dawsonville, Ga. in '96, this poor car was totally overgrown with weeds and full of water. Since then, I have completely stripped the chassis of everything removable and sandblasted to remove all rust and bad metal. New floorboards and other missing metal were replaced. This was accomplished more easily using the chassis rotisserie that I built. Then rear chassis GT reinforcements were welded on. New 911 suspension was installed including 911 vented,cross-drilled and slotted rotors. BMW calipers were also installed. I got these from Rich Johnson The whole body/chassis was painted with Restomotive's POR15 chassis paint to prevent new rust. The Beach Boys Racing all-metal Mid-Engine Speedster body kit is being installed. Besides the soft speedster top from BBR, I'm fabricating a removable fiberglass top using Miata side glass and guides and adapting them to the 914 roll-up mechanisms. The windshield frame was cut and raked back 71/2 degrees to achieve the "Speedster" look. A totally new custom carbon fiber dash/console is also being created (see Picture of foam plug). Advice and supplies for all fiberglass and carbon fiber were from Fibreglast,Inc. Modified 914 seats are being made and interior will be all fiberglass/carbon fiber and leather. A Chevy 4.3 liter V6 (see Pic) is mated to the modified (gears) 901 transaxle via a Kennedy adapter/clutch/pressure plate. A hydraulic clutch actuator from H&H Enterprises will be used to be rid of the clutch cable. I've fabricated an adapter wiring harness to mate the 914 FI harness to the TBI Chevy harness so I can keep the TBI induction. A performance chip has already been installed and tested. Cooling is accomplished using a Renegade Hybrids Radiator and my own custom shroud and ducting. A gel-cell battery is moved up front for better weight balance. The Heating and A/C unit is from VintageAir. The finished car will be painted the bright Porsche yellow Urethane. Pop-up lights will probably be changed to projector beam non-popups with molded-in locations. A multi-speaker, amplified CD stereo is being designed complete with sub-woofers. The vertical console (see Picture) houses built-in Cell phone and Satellite Navigation units. 17" 9" and 11" custom wheels/tires will finish the drive train. I will be adding new progress pictures as the project continues. Please come back often.
