My initial experience in this side of the sport was gained
at Mountune, building Cosworth YB rally engines including Gp N, Gp A, and WRC.
Whilst with Mountune I was also employed on installation consultancy and track
side support, an example of which was the Trans Chaco Rally in Paraguay, a long
distance endurance rally of 3000km in three days.
Experience was gained at D.O.M.E rebuilding gearboxes, differentials, complete
car building, rally support and team management for international customers.
Events attended included the Los Incas rally in Peru two years running, the
Greek National Championship, and rounds of the European Championship and the
British National Championship.
I then went back to Peru for one year on a permanent basis in complete management
of a team. Whilst there the team I was running competed in the Los Incas rally.
This is also a long distance rally of 3000km in varying terrain, taking place
over seven days. Preparation for this event involved preparing the engine and
its management system for performance at altitudes of over 4500 meters. The
team won the event and broke numerous records on the way.
Experience in circuit racing
Starting as a mechanic on Formula Ford, I progressed onto Formula Opel Lotus as well as British Formula 3000 working first as a mechanic and then as a consulting engineer in Europe. This work included logging data and acquisition. I then travelled to the U.S.A working with Adrian Reynard and Mike Earl in their initial entry into events of the Formula Atlantic championship. At the end of the season I stayed in the United States restoring Historic Formula One cars. Recently I have been building Nissan 98 BTCC touring car and Nissan V6 SR2 sports car engines which has involved dynamometer and development work.
