![]() Hyundai Lantra 1.8Si
Korean cars are not Italian. They're not supposed to be exciting, innovative or beautiful.Much like their greaest rivals, the Japanese,Korean vehicles try to provide a reasonable cruiser that takes you from one place to the other for a low price and require unfrequent repairs. With regards to these objectives, the Hyundai Lantra passes the test. Did I mention that it isn't a European car? Well, it shows. Rough surfaces make for a bumpy Lantra ride and the gearbox is old-fashioned. Anotehr flaw is in the area of legroom (especially for large men...6 feet and upowrds). The most typically Korean mistake is the lack of Airbags as standard. However, the Lantra does have its strong sides. A quiet, modern engine provides 125 horsepowers and takes it form nil to sixty in 10 seconds. Its top speed is adequate: 120mph. The brakes are strong and well balanced. For a car of its category, it consumes very little fuel, taking me on a 34 mile journey with one gallon. Those are indeed reasons to buy the Lantra, but the greatest single advantage of it is the price tag, putting it at three-quarters the price of european competitors. Once you get over your prejudice against Korean-made cars, it starts to look good. And so, the Hyundai Lantra gets a thumbs up, chiefly for its low price. Back to Car Reviews. |
