2500 Miles in 7 Days

On a recent trip to Tucson to see and ride with friends from the Bike Talk BBS, my friend Greg Griffin (Grifscoots) and I rode out for a week of sight seeing some beautiful country and generally having a good time. We started out on a Thursday through west Texas down I 10 and made Las Cruces by night fall. We made it into Tucson where we toured up Mt. Lemmon and down to Tombstone with a group of "bike talkers" (an internet chat group), CD and wife, CD's brother Dana, and Steve aka "Bobcat" and wife.

Coming down from Mt. Lemmon, Dana's Suzuki Cavelcade burned its stator and we sat by the road while an emergency battery was purchased.

We headed out north to Globe after the weekend of fun and saw some beautiful country in the Salt River Canyon area.

We headed over to Alpine and Reserve, New Mexico. It was here that while putting on rain gear, Greg's BMW K1200LT fell off the stand and broke the clutch lever. Greg made it into Socorro by speed shifting and using a screw driver jammed into the clutch lever housing to get it going. In Socorro the next day, we strategically placed a pair of vice grips on the clutch stud and that allowed Griff to make it into Albequerque to a Beemer shop.

I split from Greg in Socorro and headed to Ruidoso on the Wing where I set up the camp trailer for a stay at the Golden Aspen Rally.

After a few days there, I headed home. I had a great time and we plan to do it again next year.
