I was on my way to Hardraw in North Yorkshire for the Ixion Absent Friends weekend (26th Sept 98) with Si Reid, we'd had a real blast over the A515 and A57 Snake pass. Things had calmed down and we were north of Huddersfield on the A429 at a place I now know as Flappet Corner. I was busy thinking about how much fuel I'd got, how far it was till the junction with the A65 and if we should stop for some food soon or wait till we arrived at Hardraw. The road went left in what looked like a nice sweeper, bit it tightened up, the RF drifted out and caught the white lines and cat's eyes which threw the RF onto the wrong side of the road. A VW Golf was coming in the other direction and I panicked and made the stupid mistake of touching the brakes. This stood the bike up and rather than going with the corner I was now moving at a tangent to the road, putting me further and further into the opposite lane, last thing I can remember before the impact is smoke pouring off the tyres of the Golf, then it was a car, sky, road, sky, road, sky experience. I'd hit the VW head on (the police estimate an impact of 60-70mph), I was OK apart from putting a dent the size of your fist in my tank with my nuts (Which later doubled in size and turned purple) the bike, as you can see suffered a little frontal damage!
