Hall Takes KC OVDCA Feature in Commanding Fashion
May 23 - The Ohio Caverns/Ohio Valley Dwarf Car Touring Series visited
the 3/8 mile high-banked clay KC Raceway oval over the Memorial Day
weekend, with Pennsboro, West Virginia's Terry Hall taking the feature
win. Hall, whose Pro Chassis/ Yamaha powered dwarf is sponsored by
Pennsoil, has traveled extensively to compete, and indicated that the
"we race everywhere, and this is the best track I've ever been on. It
was fast and smooth all night." Jeff Staggers gave chase but was unable
to knock Hall from his front spot, settling for second. A week's worth
of hard work paid off for Jason Glick and crew, as he took a new car,
sponsored by Paula's Pizza of Harrisburg, into third position for the
event. While the track was blazingly fast (with speeds approaching 90
mph) and slick, the dwarf pilots were up to the task, running a clean
and exciting race.
Hall also dominated heat one, with Staggers again on his heels. Current OVDCA poits leader Chad Pendleton finished third, with Wanye Fitzpatrick and Ike Carter rounding out the top five.
Heat two featured more fireworks than anyone wanted, as Bo Wiley took a nasty tumble in turn one. Only tow weekes ago Wiley was involved in a horrendous accident in practice at Columbus Motor Speedway, as a Sportsman Late Model car with a stuck throttle collected his dwarf, taking both vechicles hard into the concrete wall. Wiley's car was a complete loss. In an expression of good sportsmanship, Jeff Staggers offered Wiley his backup car for the KC race. Wiley was running in the lead pack with Ed Vallette, Bob Miller, Jason Glick, Tracy Fritter, Shawn Stevens, and Greg Watson, when he fell back due to fuel delivery problems. On lap five Wiley came together with Mark Jamison, hitting the turn one wall and flipping spectacular fashion to bring out the red flag. The remainder of the heat ran caution free, with Vallette taking the checkered, followed by Miller, Glick, Fritter, and Watson.
Hall and Glick brought the field down to green, with Hall jumping to an early lead. Glick, Staggers, Miller, Pendleton and Vallette had a good battle behind Hall, with Pendleton's Sam's Rental sedan working its way towards the front. His charge was short-circuited by a spin that brought out hte only caution of the feature and took him to the tail. On hte restart Hall was out front, with Vallette second, and Staggers and Glick hot on his heels. Pendleton immediately went back to work at the green, returning to fourth by the checkered flag. Hall held on for the, while Vallette forfeited second place when his tires were found to be too soft of a compound in the post-race inspection. This moved Staggers to second, with Glick, Pendleton, and Fritter rounding out the top five. Miller had a good run go away when he had a left front tire go down on the next to last lap, dropping him to seventh behind Stevens, who recovered from an early race spin. Watson finished eighth, followed by Mark Bernard in his best performance this season in ninth, and Ike Carter in tenth. Rookie Reed Rutter finished fifteenth in his first OVDCA outing.
