First of all, I bought a '91 Daytona ES which is black with deeply tinted windows and I have came across a 1996 Probe GT which was a stickshift, and I beat it from the beginning! I guess that's why there were two NICE Daytonas in "Thw Wraith" and NO Probe
! Personally, Mike that wing on your anal probe is absolutely hilarious! Why don't you take that thing off and buy a factory spoiler, afterall, if your car is a true GT, it SHOULD have the factory spoiler in the first place!

The Daytona is FAR superior to the POS Ford. I too own a Daytona w/ the 3.0 V6. I have time and time again proven it's superiority to many cars, including Probes(GT's and otherwise), Integras(VTEC too), RX7's, and many V6 Mustangs and Camaros and a few v8
ones as well! The reason there is no power anything in the Daytona: it's a TRUE race car! It is MUCH lighter than the Probe making it quicker, more agile, and it can slow down faster(so it doesn't hit the slow @ss Ford in front of it). As far as styling g
es, all I have to say is heredity. The Daytona was named after the '69&'70 Superbirds and Charger Daytona's. It looks a lot like it too! Also wich one got picked for the IROC races in the mid '90's: The Daytona! And to this day it is STILL said to be the
EST IROC car to date! As far as interior room goes, I haver personally ridden in my Daytona with 2 whole livingroom sets in it. Let me see you do THAT with a Probe! Did I mention there was also 2 other people in the car, including my (at the time)6' step-
ad. Another thing, which one is easier and cheaper to work on? The DAYTONA!!!!! Parts are more plentiful and easy to find and interchange between other vehicles. The Probe on the other hand only has the MX-6 to fall back on. Have you ever heard of a 250,0
0+mile Probe? I haven't, but I drive a 250,000+mile Daytona!!! It STILL will spank that Probe like a redheaded step-child. The Daytona came with much more stylish wheels, and can outhandle the Probe. A stock Daytona can corner at .89G's! How easy is it to
convert the probe to RWD? Very easy with a Daytona as the parts are available via MOPAR. The Daytona also CAME with a spoiler, the probe had to have one added, and if you need to add a spoiler to a Daytona, just go to the local junk yard, pull one and go
o a body shop to have it properly installed. It looks WAY better than anything you could add from the aftermarket not to mention that the one on the Daytona is actually FUNCTIONAL!!!! As far as the future for the 3.0 and performance parts: look out 'cause
we are coming out with all kinds of stuff for it. I personally know of a 400hp 3.0 right now! 12.26 in the 1/4mile. Also that block is the SAME block that is in a 3000GT or Stealth. The Probe's block???? And unlike the Probe, the Daytona actually CAN go a
fast as it says it can! My vote is Daytona all the way. Just so you know, the Daytona can also withstand a wreck a lot better, and usually they come out on the better end of the stick. They also were one of the first cars that the AirBag was standard in!

This list of comments amazes me. Absolutely amazing. Some people are so totally hung up on appearance, they say things like "The Probe is better because it LOOKS cooler". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me, the Probe is one of the ugliest cars ev

ars now. Modifications include an MP computer and, well, that's it. Nothing has ever fallen off my car. There is no rust on it. It's all original and all in good shape with 260,000 kilometers on it. The two people I knew who bought Probes got RID of them

I've smoked SO MANY Probes it's not even funny! This with a 16 year old car with an automatic tranny! Of course having 200hp on hand helps, but I've run up a couple not so stock Probe's.

Eric seems like a good person, noting areas where his car is not perfect and admitting that it is not fully loaded. Instead, he compares fact for fact on the dollars spent. Meanwhile Mike seems to get so hung up on the fact that his car has a lighted viso
vanity mirror (so would a Daytona when that option box is selected). Both cars when equipped with the V6 and 5spd go to 60 mph in approx. 8.4 seconds. However, what you are comparing is a base V6 Daytona to the top-line Probe (the GT).
Your Probe is also two years newer. So, let's compare a 1993 top line Probe (the GT) to a top-line 1993 Daytona (the IROC R/T). The IROC R/T has a 2.2L DOHC 16v Turbocharged & Intercooled I-4 producing 224 hp and 217 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph STOCK is 6.0
seconds flat with a top speed of 150 mph. Vs. the Probe GT's 8.4 s and 122 mph top speed.
Or, how about a top of the line 1991 Daytona Shelby fitted with the 2.5L Turbo engine with 152 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 in 7.8 seconds.
The Daytona's also offer plenty of quick upgrades for enhanced performance, especially when equipped with the turbo.
A loaded Daytona has dual lighted visor/vanity mirrors, power heated mirrors, power enthusiast seats, CD/Cassette/Equalizer, 6 Infinity Speakers, pw, pdl, etc.

1) There is no replacement for displacement.
2) The Probe is more Mazda than Ford.

Well, I guess neither of you are home mechanics. If you were, you would know that a Japanese car is designed to be traded in after 4 years and not be worked on by anybody other than a dealer. Also, those minor problems on both cars would not even exist.
The Daytona is the clear choice for the people who want to have their cars forever. Except for the Japanese Mitsubishi V-6. I will feel sorry for the Probe owner when all the power acceries go out and the hole interior will probably have to be disassem
led to get them to work again...
Oh, and the parts of many Chrysler cars from '82 to '95 will work on the Daytona, so you can get a turbo engine, a different set of seats, 5 speed or automatic, firmer springs...
Also, you should get a '93 Daytona to compare to the Probe(which is really a Mazda 626 in disguise). There's a 224 hp 16v turbo & intercooled 4 cylinder that can run with anything in Ford's line for the same model year. The body style looks a little bet
er than the '91. That's the only car that will actually do 145 between the Probe and Daytona. One thing performance-wise the Probe will do better than the Daytona is handling.
So, the Probe wins in handling, but loses in maintainability, customization, and performance. It's an OK car, but I would pick the Daytona of any model year to be my car.

it is not, you're comparing the top of the line Probe with the base level Daytona. The Probe has a sophisticated V-6 and the Daytona has, I presume, a 2.5l 4 cylinder. Eric, if you want a Daytona that will open everybody's eyes, see if you can buy a Da
tona IROC R/T. It was built in 92 & 93. This car has a 224hp DOHC 2.2l turbo w/ Lotus heads that will blow the Probes away. Car & Driver got a 0-60 time of 6.0 secs and a quarter mile time in the mid 14s. The last time I checked, any Probe(whether tur
o or V-6) was in the 7 to 8 second range and the quarter mile was in the mid to high 15s. The IROC R/T can run with a Mustang Cobra or Z28 or TA but I would not advise it. Those cars are still the best performance buys of the decade. Eric I think you w
uld do better if you got a Daytona Shelby Z, Turbo Z, or Shelby. They are better looking than the base Daytona.

I feel I am the perfect person to answer this question. I sold my '88 Dodge Daytona and bought a brand new '96 PGT. The difference is like night and day. The Daytona rattled and broke down at least a few times a year. The Probe has a world class build
evel. The Daytona couldnt get out of its own way, my Probe is damn quick. The Daytona was rough, even racous. The Probe GT is smooth and refined. I remember cornering in the Daytona, body rolling and tires screeching. The Probe handles the same curves
with ease. The most telling fact is that it is costing me less to own a brand new fully loaded PGT(power everything, moonroof, chromes, leather, Borla, other mods etc.) than that piece of crap Daytona. I spent more to repair that clunker than I do for
y payments now. As far as performance, the PGT would totally annihilate my old Daytona. There is nothing that the Daytona does better than a PGT. Besides keep the service department happy. No offense to the Daytona owner....I was there once. I liked

Kudos on the enjoyable site. However, Eric must be feeling a little inadequate. Eric's Daytona reminds me somewhat of my previous ride, 1990 Chevy Beretta GTZ. It had a lot of power but was lacking the technology and sophistication of the newer sports

I Drive a: 94 probe
Now there's nothing wrong with that wing on that probe. I have the same on mine.At first I never liked them either, but now I believe it gives the car more of a modified , exotic , racing look.

My obvious choice would have to be the Probe. I myself have owned both a Probe and a Daytona. My Daytona was a 1991 just like Eric's. Well, i think it looked a little better. Anyway after owning both of them I know first hand the Probe is better. My
robe has hit the 140 mark on the dash but my Daytona couldn't even hit the 120 mark let alone the 160. Get rid of the spoiler Mike.

I'd choose the PROBE GT over the daytona any day.
The PROBE out performs out corners and beats the daytona in any aspect. With its DOHC and sweet six it revs to the redline without a sweat. The dayton

The probe definately looks cooler,however,the spoiler is GaY and needs to be replaced with another that fits better. I think that the spoiler would be cool if it was the width of the car. I think that the Daytona was more bang for Eric's buck.

I have the most credit of anyone voting because I rode along with both of them. Eric's car left black marks on the corner while Mike was amazed. Mike's car even when the radio was turned off could not squeel while Eric laughed his ass off. In Mikes def
nse we did hear something one time but it may have the cd skipping. Mikes car is awful because of the 13 foot spoiler which prevents him from giving his so called "honnies" a ride to Hardees because of the clearance level.

The daytona has no potintial, although my car is living proof that probes rock. I have intake, exhaust, throdle bodie, headers, g-force chip, heads ported and polishes. oh baby, is it fast. lets just say i can keep up with my friends Cobra. he runs high 1
