This car was sold to a high performance dealer in Detroit who specializes in introducing drag cars back to their natural habitat. In other words, he builds street racers for the serious Detroit crowd. The day he picked it up, he was debating on which big block to stick in the car. By now, it's probably the stoplight champ of Woodward Avenue.
The car had a very solid body, but the bumpers, hood, and trunk lid had been replaced with fiberglas. It had been back-halved with a four link and nine inch Ford big bearing housing with 6.20 gearset and Strange axles.
The motor was a 377 CI small block Chevy with Dart heads, Bowtie intake, Venolia aluminum rods, Jessel belt drive , MSD 7AL, and other goodies. It dyno'd at 624 hp @ 6800 and 486 ft-lb @ 5800.
The tranny was a TCI glide with a 1.89 low gear super set. It had Vasco input shaft with turbo splines and a TCI 5800 stall Cobra convertor with steel stator.
It also had a few unusual parts like a chrome-moly driveshaft, mylar windows (never scratch, never dull, very expensive ), and Autometer pro comp liquid filled gauges. As you can see, money was never an issue .
The best pass was a 6.38@114mph in
the eighth.
Not too shabby for a 3200 lb car
. Check out the starter's reaction to the burnout in the bottom picture

The Malibruiser will be sadly missed. However, the new tube-frame Firebird with 632 Big Chief motor (dyno'd at 1253 hp) should help ease the pain.
