More Info
The June 98 issue of Car & Driver has an article on the Motegi track. Excerpts follow: p.34 -- "Japan Tries American-Style Racing -- and Likes It" has several interesting tidbits about the Twin Ring Motegi track, which Honda reportedly spent over $400M to build. In contrast, they spent $35M (approx 35 years ago) to build the Suzuka road course that currently hosts the Japan F1 race. There is a high-speed 1.5 mile banked oval ringed by mountains (located about 2 hours north of Tokyo), 2 complete road courses, a 1/4 and 1/8 mile dirt tracks, a go-kart track ("Kart Land"), and complete separate facilities for teaching driving dynamics such as limit handling, hydroplaning and collision avoidance. Outside the main track is the "Honda Fan Fun Lab" (an interactive display of Honda-related products) and the "Honda Collection Hall" (a three story musuem... in addition to everything Honda has ever made, also houses hundreds of significant cars and bikes from competitors)... For those who had their appetites whetted at NSXPO 98, this is the mother lode... "This is true. This is not lie."
