John Andretti began his first full NASCAR season by finishing 7th in his first official event - the 125 Qualifier for the 1994 Daytona 500. John completed one of racing's major individual one-day accomplishments in May when he finished 10th for car owners, Jonathan Byrd and A.J. Foyt, in the Indianapolis 500 and then flew to Charlotte and competed in the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 -- both events were held on May 29, 1994. This is the day I first noticed John Andretti, and the start of my "obsession" with this soon-to-be NASCAR Superstar.

John finished the '94 season driving for NASCAR legend Richard Petty after beginning the season with the Hagen Racing Team. In his first event in Petty's STP pontiac, John broke the previous track record at the Michigan International Speedway and started in the front row. John steadily improved with the Petty organization--qualifying and racing competitively in the season's final 11 events. With John at the wheel, the team led more laps than any other Pontiac team.

The pictures above are from my racing cards...I didn't meet John until January 1996. On that day, John became my favorite NASCAR driver.
