One of the premier sources of high-performance Fords is Kenne Bell. Years of experience taught these guys how to build reliable horsepower and put it to the pavement. Recently, Jim Bell put together a vehicle that can crush egos and haul them away. His Ford F-150 pickup is by no means a workhorse, unless you call tearing up the pavement at the local dragstrip work. The idea behind the project was to build a fleet of Kenne Bell Thoroughbred Pickups that would be sold as "tuner trucks." This one was the rolling test lab and another serves as the demo vehicle for potential customers.
Upon looking at the truck, the low stance
and white racing stripes give the truck a performance look.
The
original 4.6 V-8 was removed in favor of a Cobra-R version that
was enhanced with a Kenne Bell supercharger and Open House intake
manifold. The stock ignition also has been enhanced with the
Kenne Bell Boost-A-Spark that retards timing as boost levels
increase. Coupled with a three-inch diameter exhaust system and
Kenne Bell muffler, the Cobra engine produces 438 horsepower and
426 lb-ft. of torque.
The Thoroughbred was tested at Los Angeles
County Raceway and clocked 13.50 down the quarter mile at 102 mph
with 7 psi of boost. According to Jim, with the boost cranked up
to 11 psi and a set of BFGoodrich drag radials, the truck ran
12.99 at 106 mph. The results are very impressive,
considering the truck is 50-state emissions legal.
